Men take it hard when their wives makes more money than they do.
In this month's W Magazine, Matthew Mellon, ex-husband of Jimmy Choo shoe empress Tamara Mellon, talks about why they split up. Apparently, it can really get you down when your wife takes home $100 million over the course of your marriage. Boy, we’d just hate to be in his shoes. Says Mellon, “I felt like my masculinity had been stripped from me. I feel like my b- - - s are in a jar, like a Damien Hirst artwork on the mantelpiece.” First of all, to W: Really? Dashes for "balls"? You disappoint us. Second, we’re not familiar with all of Damien Hirst’s work—does he have a piece called “Balls in a Jar,” and would you really want to put it over the mantelpiece? Okay, maybe we’re missing the point.
It’s true men can get really pissed when they don’t bring home most of the bacon. Here’s a solution: Make sure you and your spouse make EXACTLY the same amount per year, down to the penny. Then there’s no competition. Unrealistic? You betcha. So, how do you deal with it if you make more than your husband? Tell us!
